This exquisitely detailed volcanic stone statue of Ganesh was made out of black volcanic stone and depicts the Hindu god Ganesh, in a meditative pose with some of his iconic objects. In his lower right hand he carries his broken tusk (symbolizing sacrifice, especially in pursuit of the creative arts), while in his lower left hand he carries a bowl of his favoured laddoo sweets, which he is sampling with his mouth. His two upper arms carry axes, which is said by some to symbolize either the destruction of worldly desires and attachments (and all of their associated sorrows), or the breaking down of obstacles.
